Shekhar Gupta has uttered the only voice of sanity (http://www.indianexpress.com/news/our-indian-feudal-service/1210149/0) in the sordid l’affaire Khobragade.

Indian bureaucrats of every ilk – be it the money-grubbing revenue service, venal information service, dishonest administrative service etc – and politicians act like feudal lords or royalty of yore. 

The term ‘service’ becomes oxymoronic. Being selected by the chthonic and nepotism-ridden UPSC does not oblige them to serve the country; rather they expect the ‘mango people’ to be subservient to them. For example, they will not pay toll taxes; the temerity of a poorly paid employee asking for a mere

`100 will result in the said VIP’s muscle-men destroying public property and inflicting grievous body damage to the wretched soul doing his duty.

This scion of a bureaucrat with a plum posting in the USA (possessing a flat in the infamous Adarsh Housing Society and farm land all over the country) must have ill-treated her maid as is wont by every high-class (sic) Indian. Why was she not in office but dropping her children at school (in an official car, no doubt)? 

So now the conspiracy theory is that Sangeeta Richards husband was a spy a la Snowden, and was whisked away by the CIA. Do we Indians possess a genotype for paranoia and persecution complex – like the ‘starvation gene’?

The glamouros Ms Khobragarde seems to be doing more sightseeing in USA (imbibing the choicest wines paid for by my taxes) than protecting the interests of Indians and India.
