The Big C strikes Ziggy Stardust

Major Tom
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in the most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here am I sitting in my tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do"

Doggone It!

Snug as a Bug in a Rug
This doggie denizen of GLA ensures that he is warm during these wintry nights. Here he has located a pile of grass that had been cut to clear up the sides of the road. He has snuggled in and made himself comfortable.

Bleary-eyed baleful look
The motorized lawn-mower leaves these heaps of grass shavings and these offer better cushioning and insulation during the night.

Odd/Even Rocks

I am no fan of Muffler Man and his shrill bunch of anarchists. However, I wholeheartedly endorse the 'odd-even' scheme.
If nothing else, the traffic density has been drastically reduced. One can drive smoothly and not just fume and idle in gridlocked traffic jams.
I would like this to be a permanent feature. The first fortnight of every month should have this restriction and the next two weeks should be a free for all.

People who cannot do without their vehicle will opt for CNG powered or electric cars (These and other eco-friendly cars should have a green number plates issued by the the Transport Authority).

Any takers?

NETFLIX: Welcome time India

So finally we can get to see uncensored films and TV shows in India.

  स्वागतम् नेटफ्लिक्क्स
The first film I saw was Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange ". Enjoyed it thoroughly. Of course, it's better to have read the book before in order to get an idea of the language used viz., Nadsat.

I've subscribed for the basic version (so the resolution is not fantastic) since the HD package guzzles bandwidth. However, a casual browsing shows that the choice of films is not very exhaustive.

In a Galaxy far, far away ..... The Magic Lives On

May the Force be with you.
Saw the latest Star Wars episode nearly four decades after the first one was released (1977). Despite the passage of time, my (hopefully) maturing from a callow medical student (brimming with idealism) to a cynical and doddering quack, and the sensory overload from the internet, the magic of the epic inter-galactic fairy tale was still there.

From the familiar words "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" fading away into the background (in 3-D), to the thrilling music and the spell-binding breathless action of space-planes whizzing about and ear-splitting explosions all over the galaxy, witty dialogues to weird aliens and smart-alecky robots - it was all there.

Despite his rotundity, BB 8 is rather agile
There were new characters. The only noteworthy fellow was the roly-poly BB-8. An archaic and haggard Harrison Ford (wise-cracking his way out of sticky situations), an aging and yet charming Carrie Fisher (alas! without her iconic hairstyle), hirsute and incoherent as ever Chewbacca and the elusive and now venerable Mark Hamill were more endearing then the new cast. The annuated and decrepit Millennium Falcon saved the day yet again with its acrobatic flying abilities and powerful arsenal.

Oh yes! The chronically maligned storm-troopers finally manage to shoot straight and actually hit their targets!

There was the inevitable bar with its potpourri of inebriated aliens making dubious deals or partaking of their versions of carnality.

Eagerly waiting for the next episode.
